Baby Pushchairs and Important Buying Criteria
As a first time mother who has moved on from a stressful career and the worries of How To Find A Job In A Recession, you’ll be looking at lots and lots of new products for your new baby. This will range from baby clothes, a mattress, all kind of lining like zebra sheets and all sorts of toys and talking aids. You may even end up buying a pet for your baby and decide to buy a house for it, like dog houses or rabbit hutches or an accessory like a red dog collar. There never seems to be an end to what you need to buy. Gone will be the day you were looking at infertility statistics. And amongst all the toys and accessories you have to consider whether to buy a pram or pushchair or both. The buying phase never seems to end.
And pushchairs in particular can be one of the most expensive ’single’ items a parent will have to buy for their baby as they grow up. So it pays to shop around for good bargains and above all find a pushchair or pram that will last the test of time.
If you make the decision between a pram or pushchair/stroller then that’s just the start of the decision making process. But at least you have moved on from identifying the things you need, like a high sleeper bed or a crib.
There are so many makers pushing their range of pushchairs that it’s difficult to know where to start. But here is a handy guide to some of the top names and what to look out for.
Top 10 most popular Pushchair Makers (In no particular order)
1. Quinny
2. Bugaboo
3. Jane (Pernounced ‘Hannah’. It’s Spannish)
4. Maxi Cosi
5. Maclaren
6. Silver Cross (Makers of fine prams too.)
7. Britax
8. Baby Jogger
9. Phil & Teds
10. Graco
Each manufacturer then has their own range and style of pushchairs to fit in with mum lifestyles. For example you can get pushchairs that are more suited to town/city streets. With slightly slimmer profiles. As opposed to pushchairs from baby Jogger that are used for more open spaces and as the name suggests used by parents who wish to take baby for a ’spin’ while they take a job. These are slightly longer in design and also lightweight.
Most pushchairs do however at least have certain criteria which are compulsory. And that is comfort and safety. With the advances in technology the pushchairs of today can be designed to be very lightweight and strong, plus they can also fold up easily and in some cases at the push of a button.
In terms of baby comfort the makers have ensured to listen to mums over the years and now provide a multitude of standard and optional extras to keep baby comfortable. You don’t want your baby to have a Hypertension Treatment. And also to make the whole walking experience for mum to be a little more comfortable. This has been dealt with my designing pushchairs with soft rubber materials on the pushbar, while the pushbar itself is also adjustable. Plus the inclusion of several storage areas allows mum, or dad. to bring along lots of accessories to keep baby happy.
The bottom line is that pushchair makers have taken on board many years of advice from parents and have spent a lot of money and designs. This doesn’t mean that every pushchair is perfect but it means that it makes buying the pushchair that’s right for you so much easier.
